Company History
In 1956, Ed Stephanson (1904-1990) started Stegg Electric Limited to make electromagnetic relays in his basement at 34 Bertram Blvd in Belleville. In the early 60's, several automatic screw machines were bought and in 1972, the plant was constructed on University Avenue. Within the last 35 years, the plant has increased in size with two additions. In 1973, the first Davenport was bought and in 1984 the first CNC (F16) turning centre. Since then, the company has acquired many state of the art pieces of machinery and technology.
The company name changed from Stegg Electric Limited to Stegg in 1980. The name Stegg was developed by Mr. Stephanson: ST, Stephanson; E, Edward; GG, his son's first initials. Today Stegg is recognized in Canada and the United States as a leading supplier of precision machined components for the telecommunications, aerospace, automotive, defense, medical and electronics related industries.
In March of 2004, Stegg was purchased by its current owners Dave Smart and Bob Stokes. The company has grown both in the number of machines on the manufacturing floor and in the number of employees. In December of 2007, Stegg grew even further as we acquired Gamma Manufacturing in Raleigh North Carolina, now known as Stegg USA.
Stegg has a phenomenal reputation for quality. Many of its key employees have more than 25 years of service to Stegg, strengthening the ongoing desire to achieve excellence in quality. This was evident when, in 1996, Stegg received its ISO 9002:1994 certification. In July of 2008 Stegg received the coveted ISO / TS 16949. At Stegg we know what quality is all about.
